The Role

Juniper Education is seeking an enthusiastic, committed and friendly Python/Django Senior Software Engineer, working as part of a team to work on a variety of projects. Our focus is on disrupting the Education Technology market by creating cloud-based solutions that will be used by schools on a day-to-day basis, by combining data, innovative user interfaces and integrating with other products in the Juniper portfolio. The role will be a hands-on developer role, working as part of a team but primarily independent working.

Key responsibilities and accountabilities

• Take responsibility for the quality of your own deliverables.

• Take a supporting role in design and planning sessions to enable engineers to translate product requirements into architecture and code.

• Create and review end-to-end implementation to agreed specifications and create supporting automated test assets.

• Support and mentor other application engineers.

• Put in place processes and standards to ensure that the product is of the highest quality.

• Help identify technical risk and mitigation plans.

• Understand the importance of, and implement, data governance and information security policies in place across the organisation and required by our customers.

You’ll need experience of…

• Building web applications in Python with Django CMS

• Strong knowledge of google cloud platform (GCP)

• A relational database such as MySQL, MariaDB or PostgreSQL

• Front-End experience such as Javascript

• Automated testing (both TDD and BDD)

• Selenium WebDriver desirable

• Distributed version control using Git

• Experience of mentoring other developers to follow best practice

The Role

The Group Facilities team manage all aspects of the office facilities across all Juniper Group locations in the UK. It is responsible for Health, Safety and environmental policies, practices and service provision, property management, management of suppliers and external service providers of support services. Each day the team may deal with a wide range of requests and enquiries, face to face, on the telephone and via the shared facilities inbox covering which help to ensure the smooth running of the Juniper offices. The Office Coordinator will play a key role of supporting the Group Facilities Supervisor in providing the day-to-day activities of the function.

Key responsibilities and accountabilities

  • Ensure the smooth day to day coordination of the Head Office reception and office facilities across all company locations.
  • Assisting with the updating of policies, procedures, and risk assessments to improve the overall effectiveness of the facilities function.
  • Assist with the coordination of Health, Safety and environmental policies and safe working practices across the company.
  • Maintain a comprehensive Health, Safety and facilities recording system and policy update log.
  • Coordinate the provision of first aiders, fire marshals and mental health first aiders across all company locations.
  • Ensure fire safety requirements are communicated and carried out effectively and staff are adequately trained.
  • Coordination of car parking facilities of Head Office and process office booking requests. Administer all company storage requirements including staff lockers, stationery, filing and general storage.
  • Coordinate security procedures and processes regarding keys, updates, movement, allocation and distribution.
  • Coordinate external contractors in relation to Health and Safety risk assessments across all company locations.
  • Coordinate the issue and management of entry passes, fobs and keys across all company locations.
  • Audit and administration of supplier contracts including but not limited to, cleaning, security, pest control and waste management.
  • Coordinate the daily post.
  • Support and coordinate internal and external office moves.
  • Coordinate accommodation bookings for conferences, training events and meetings. Coordinate accommodation bookings for hotel reservations company wide.
  • Provide support for the Senior Leadership Team when required.
  • Order lunches and set up meeting rooms for internal and external meetings when required.

The Role: Clerk Act as a professional clerk for governing bodies, committees, boards of trustees and specialist meetings. This is a part-time role based mainly at home but with the expectation that clerks will go into schools for governing body meetings that are not held virtually and also into the Juniper office for regular meetings as and when required.

Applicants must have their own transport and be prepared to work flexibly as governing body meetings are held both during the day and in the evenings.

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities

• Advise the governing body on legislation and procedural matters where necessary before, during and after meetings; this requires the clerk to be up to date on all school governance matters

• Act as the first point of contact for governors with queries and best practice on procedural matters

• Keep up to date with current policies and procedures from the Department of Education / Education and Skills Funding Agency and other relevant bodies.

• Support the school to ensure that statutory policies are in place, notifying the school of revisions when necessary. Provide Policy Reviews where requested

• Provide advice on the annual calendar of governing body meetings and tasks. • Coordinate with the chair and headteacher to prepare a focused agenda for the governing body and committee meetings

• Advise the governing body about the decisions to be taken if a meeting is not quorate.

• Record the attendance of governors at meetings (and any apologies – whether they have been accepted or not), and take appropriate action in relation to absences

• Draft minutes of governing body meetings, indicating who is responsible for any agreed action with timescales, and send drafts to the chair and (if agreed by the governing body), the headteacher within 10 days of the meeting.

• Circulate the reviewed draft to all governors, the headteacher and other relevant body, such as the local authority/diocese as agreed by the governing body and within the timescale agreed

• Follow-up any agreed action points with those responsible and inform the chair of progress

• Advise governors and appointing bodies in advance of the expiry of a governor’s term of office, so elections or appointments can be organised in a timely manner

• Check the school register of governor pecuniary interests and ensure the record of governors’ business interests is reviewed regularly and lodged within the school and published on the school website

• Maintain governor meeting attendance records and advise the chair of potential disqualification through lack of attendance

• Ensure the governing body is properly constituted

• Maintain up to date records of the names, addresses and category of governing body members and their term of office, and inform the governing body and any relevant authorities of any changes to its membership

• Maintain copies of current terms of reference and membership of any committees and working parties and any nominated governors e.g. Child Protection, SEND. Submit this to the relevant staff member when there is a change.

• Ensure copies of statutory policies and other school documents approved by the governing body are kept in the school and published as agreed

• Manage information effectively in accordance with legal requirements.

• Attend internal training and update sessions on school governance, as well as taking ownership of own learning

• Use best endeavours to ensure a record of approved and signed minutes and agendas are available in the school in hard copy and that there is a complete record of one set of approved agenda, papers, and minutes kept in electronic copy by the school.

• Communicate with new governors, sending them key documents and regulatory forms to complete as well as ensuring that the central governance team has their details so they can be added to receive governance content, apps and updates.

• The clerk will work with the Chair and Headteacher to produce a yearly planner, which includes an annual calendar of meetings and the cycle of agenda items for the governing board and/or its committees.

• The clerk will support the school in keeping track of deadlines in the policy schedule and advise governors and the headteacher when policies are coming up for renewal and review.

• The clerk will provide guidance on succession planning for the governing body and facilitate further advice where necessary.

• The clerk will support skills audits and advise on training requirements.

• Participate in regular performance management where required.

Other relevant tasks

• The above list is not exhaustive, and clerks may be required to provide support to the Juniper Education Clerking service where required which could include drafting documentation, supporting the helpline, ad hoc clerking, newsletters and other tasks relevant to the service.

Qualifications and Experience

• Experience in working for both primary and secondary governing bodies and/or at MAT Board level is preferable but full training will be given.

• Have excellent organisational skills and prepared to work unsupervised but supported by Lead Clerk

• Experience writing agendas and accurate and well-presented minutes

• Experience of organising meetings

• Knowledge of governing body procedures, educational legislation, and guidance

• Knowledge of Data Protection legislation

• Ability to maintain confidentiality and remain impartial

• Ability to maintain good working relationships with all levels of school staff and governing board members
